I plan to visit Bakersfield, how do I get information? 

There are multiple ways to get visitor information. You can e-mail us a request or call the Convention and Visitors Bureau directly at 866.425.7353. If you are already in Bakersfield, you can stop by and visit us, we are located at 515 Truxtun Ave. across from the Amtrak Station. You can also request a visitor's guide online. After you request a visitor's guide online you will have the option to download a copy.

What is the population of Bakersfield?

According to the latest internal city and U.S. Census Bureau estimates:

The population of the City of Bakersfield is 323,213.
The Metropolitan Statistical Area population is 780,117 

What county is Bakersfield located in?

Bakersfield is located in and is the seat of Kern County. 

What are the major crops grown around Bakersfield? 

The total value of agricultural commodities produced in Kern County during 2006 was nearly $3.5 billion. 

Based on value, the top five commodities produced in Kern County are:

I’ve heard about Buck Owens and the Crystal Palace, how do I get more information? 

The Crystal Palace is a perennial favorite among visitors to Bakersfield. The complex includes a nightclub, hotel, restaurant, and museum. More information can be found here. 

Is there an airport in Bakersfield? Are there commercial flights available?

The Bakersfield area is served by Meadows Field Airport. Many commercial flights are available to Bakersfield from destinations across the country and internationally. The airport is located five miles from downtown Bakersfield. Delta, ExpressJet, Mexicana, United Express and US Airways provide commercial airline service. More information can be found here

Is public transportation available in Bakersfield? 

Yes. Golden Empire Transit (GET) provides city wide bus service. Route and fare information can be found here.

Where is the Rabobank Arena, Convention Center, and Theater and can I find a place to stay nearby? 

The Rabobank Arena, Convention Center, and Theater is located in downtown Bakersfield. From Highway 99 take the California Ave. exit east. Make a left on Chester Ave. and then a right on Truxtun Ave. The Rabobank complex is two and a half blocks down on the right hand side of the street. Hotels in the immediate vicinity are the Holiday Inn Select and the Best Western -  Hill House.

Does Bakersfield have any pro sports teams? 

The city is home to three pro sports teams:
Bakersfield Condors – ECHL Hockey (Class AA)
Bakersfield Blaze – California League Baseball (Class A)
Bakersfield Jam – NBA-D League 

I’ve heard you can go whitewater rafting near Bakersfield?

Bakersfield lies mainly southwest of the Kern River, a 155 mile-long snowmelt fed waterway. Numerous companies offer rafting packages, from half day trips to multi-day packages. Click here for more information. 

I want to rent and ride a bike around Bakersfield, can I do that?

Yes! The Greater Bakersfield Area has more than 100 miles of bicycle lanes and pathways. The local favorite is the Kern River Parkway, measuring 30 miles in length. Bicycle rentals are available around the city.
